Welcome to the World Bindi Yoga!

Hello Yogis!

Last month, Bindi Yoga celebrated it's 5 years of being open to the Lynnwood community. Whew! Time flies when you are having fun...but is fun! I like to think of my job as the best job in the world. I tell my students all the time that some of the reasons why I love what I do is because I do not have to wear makeup, I do not have to wear shoes and I get to wear comfy clothing all day. Who wouldn't want that right?! Not only that, but I get to help others achieve something for themselves...finding their true selves, acceptance of who they are and bringing positivity into their lives...or at least that is what I strive for :)

Susan and I wouldn't have created this space for yogis to practice in if we didn't think it could survive. And it has, and it continues to thrive with energy, passion, love and devotion.
I wanted to sit down and chat with Susan a little bit on where we are, where we were, and where we see ourselves for the future. We want to share this with you so that you can understand why we are where we are now.

Q: Susan, from the first year to the second year, what were your hopes for Bindi Yoga?
A: "You mean besides being able to pay rent!? Haha! One of the main goals I had in starting the studio was trying to figure out the best heating situation for the hot room. If students do not know, we have had a heck of a time trying to figure out the best heating method without breaking the bank. We first tried the heat that was already installed in the building. That didn't last long because it wasn't able to produce enough heat to fill the room. Then we tried an infrared heating system. It worked better, however the heat was concentrated in only certain parts of the room and we had a difficult time trying to maintain heat in between classes. We finally found what we needed with what we currently have...heated radiant panel heaters. The best thing about these panels is that it keeps it very consistent in temperature throughout the room. Therefore, "hot spots" are lessened and everyone is getting primarily the same heat."

Q: What other things were you considering in your first to second year?
A: "Well, I was teaching a lot of the classes when we first opened. Because of that, staying hydrated and taking care of myself was difficult. So that was one thing was to make sure I got enough fluids in my system so I could teach! The other thing I was really wanting and needing at Bindi Yoga was to create a community. A community that could walk in each day, have friends to talk to, have students that wanted to engage in conversation with one another...a place that people felt like the belonged! Over the years, this community has gotten stronger and stronger and this is like a second home to me."

Q: What are your plans for the next five years?
A: "In the next five years, I plan to grow within the studio with the students and teachers. We want to add a ton of more classes with different styles so that students can choose from a wider variety of classes to deepen their mental and physical yoga journey. I also want to see more workshops at Bindi Yoga and retreats. We love hosting retreats!"

Q: What did you get from Bindi Yoga that you didn't expect to receive over the years?
A: "I really did not think that I have gain so many new friendships! A lot of my friends are at Bindi Yoga and I feel so blessed to have met such wonderful people! I also gained a job that I am always happy to come to. Some jobs in the past that I have had make me drag my feet to work. Going to Bindi is exciting for me! Lastly, I would like to say that I am FINALLY living my passion. I did not think that being in the yoga world as a studio owner would be so fulfilling...and it is!"

Susan and I would like to thank each and every one of you for your outstanding enthusiasm and devotion to Bindi Yoga! We are so incredibly excited for the next five years ahead and are ready for the future of the yoga community!
